Ian McDowell founded Dark Side Walks to put an end to boring, airbrushed history once and for all by delivering vivid heritage walks that bring the past to life.
When he was barely out of school uniform, Ian appeared in the celebrated 1985 Cambridge University production of Brian Friel's Irish tragedy "Translations" with Jez Butterworth's older brother Tom.
Jez Butterworth was so inspired by Ian's performance he dashed off to become one of Hollywood's most successful screenwriters.
Ian played the part of the shillelagh.
Ian is a qualified City of London Guide Lecturer. He has been a writer and broadcaster for the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 4.
